Mechanical Design Engineer
📍 Dover, UK | 💷 £40,000 | Global Electrical Test Equipment Manufacturer
 
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering business specialising in electrical and electronic test equipment. The role is based in Dover and focuses on designing robust mechanical solutions for complex technical products used in industrial and electrical testing environments.
 
You will take ownership of mechanical design work from concept through to production, supporting both new product development and ongoing product improvement. This includes close work with manufacturing, electronics, and product teams.
 
Solid Works is used for 3D modelling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings, alongside involvement in testing, validation, and design for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities
 
Lead mechanical design from concept through to production release
Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings (Solid Works)
Support transfer of new products into manufacturing at Dover site
Carry out mechanical testing, simulation, and validation work
Produce and maintain BOMs and full technical documentation
Work within cross-functional engineering teams on new product design
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards
Support PLM system implementation and process improvements  Requirements
 
Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years' mechanical design experience
Strong Solid Works or equivalent 3D CAD experience

Experience with electromechanical assemblies and DFMA
Knowledge of plastics, sheet metal, and machined components
Understanding of mechanical testing, stress analysis, and FEA

Experience with BOMs, ERP systems (SAP preferred), and change control
Strong attention to detail and structured problem-solving approach
Good communication and ability to work across engineering teams  Benefits
