Duties & Responsibilities:
Undertake and/or supervise complex inspections, investigations and projects to secure business compliance with Trading Standards legislation Identify legal contraventions and select and implement appropriate enforcement action, from informal advice through to formal legal proceedings Prepare reports, undertake correspondence, conduct interviews, compile case files and brief Legal Services, including giving evidence in Court when required Provide specialist advice and guidance to businesses, members of the public and colleagues on Trading Standards matters Work collaboratively with Council departments and external partners including Police, Fire Service, other Local Authorities and the Food Standards Agency Represent the Trading Standards Service at meetings, regional initiatives, projects and partnership forums Provide guidance, mentoring and specialist support to less experienced colleagues, helping to ensure consistent and high-quality enforcement Keep up to date with changes to legislation, statutory guidance and best practice, contributing to the development of policies, procedures and service plans Essential Requirements:
Professional CTSI Trading Standards qualification (DTS/DCATS including Food and Legal Metrology modules) or equivalent, plus a university degree Significant experience working within a Trading Standards service, ideally within a large urban authority or private sector organisation Strong knowledge of current and proposed Trading Standards legislation, statutory guidance and enforcement procedures/PACE Proven experience undertaking complex investigations and projects, including preparing reports, conducting interviews and compiling case files Experience investigating consumer complaints and providing business advice to members of the public and commercial undertakings Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence behaviour and manage complex negotiations Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage competing priorities and make sound professional decisions Strong computer literacy and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels If you are an experienced Trading Standards professional available for an immediate or short-notice start, apply now with your up-to-date CV.
