Looking for a fast-paced, detail-focused role at the heart of UK trade? We're recruiting a Customs Clerk in Dover, supporting the smooth movement of goods across international borders. If you're confident preparing customs declarations, checking compliance, and keeping freight moving under tight deadlines, this could be your next step.

The Role

You'll manage import and export administration end-to-end, ensuring declarations are accurate, compliant, and submitted on time-while working closely with stakeholders to prevent or resolve border delays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare import and export documentation and verify commercial paperwork for accuracy
  • Submit pre-lodgement and frontier import/export declarations using customs declaration software connected to customs systems (e.g., CDS/CHIEF or equivalent)
  • Apply correct commodity codes and supporting information
  • Validate duty rates, VAT calculations, and tariff requirements in line with international trade rules and HMRC/local regulations
  • Liaise with port authorities, transport planners, drivers, and clients to resolve holds, queries, and border delays
  • Maintain accurate records and support audits/queries where required

  • Minimum 1 year's experience in a customs clerk role or within freight forwarding/logistics with customs exposure
  • Practical knowledge of customs procedures, tariff regulations, and commodity classification
  • Strong administrative accuracy (data entry, numerical checking, document validation)
  • Calm, solutions-driven approach in time-sensitive freight operations
  • Confident written and verbal communication with customers and operational teams
  • IT proficiency, including spreadsheets and logistics/customs systems
  • High attention to detail and a consistent compliance mindset
