Introduction. The Coastal Programs Section of the Division of Climate, Coastal and Energy serves as the Department’s research, education, and policy lead for coastal and ocean issues, managing Delaware’s federal coastal zone and balancing use and protection of resources through the Delaware Coastal Management Program and Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Summary Statement. The Ocean Planning Outreach Coordinator will lead public engagement and communications efforts to support Delaware’s ocean planning initiatives. This position collaborates with partners, stakeholders, and the public, organizes outreach events, and prepares educational and communication materials to share the value of Delaware’s marine resources. The Coordinator may assist in developing a communications plan for future community engagement strategies and help develop, manage, and analyze a public survey focused on ocean planning.

Additional work on weekends, evenings, and holidays may be scheduled.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with graphic design of printed brochures and program flyers.
  • Assist in the development and posting of materials to the Reserve social media sites.
  • May supervise and manage volunteers.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and have fun.
Job Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • One year’s experience in communications, public relations, marketing, customer service or related fields.
  • One year’s experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  • Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
