This is a project engineer position in the Bridge Maintenance & Construction group of the DelDOT Bridge Section. The position will involve developing scope, schedules, and bridge preservation, rehabilitation, and structure maintenance contracts; monitoring multiple concurrent contracts; coordinating with intra-departmental support sections, outside agencies and public outreach as needed; and providing field support for projects in construction.

Upon satisfactory completion of department promotional standards and job requirements, employees may be eligible to be promoted to the next level.

• Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
• Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
• Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
• Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
• Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
• Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
• Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
• Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
• Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:

• $4,000 Engineer I
• $5,000 Engineer II
• $6,000 Engineer III
• $7,000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware.
