Overview
Delaware Eye Care Center is searching for an Ophthalmic Technician for our team in Dover, DE. Our top candidate will bring at least one year of ophthalmic or optometric technician experience. We also have a significant training program and would accept candidates with a medical office background such as medical assistant, scribe, or patient services representative.

Responsibilities
- Make introductions and establish rapport with patients.
- Initiate patient evaluation, documenting chief complaint, history, review of systems, and ocular findings accurately.
- Perform pre‑exam testing (visual acuity, pinhole, glare, confrontational visual field, extraocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, angle assessment, dilation, and specialty tests like color vision, stereopsis, dry eye).
- Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, ophthalmic photography, OCT, and optical biometry.
- Additional testing as requested by the doctor.
- Perform retinoscopy and refractometry. Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office.
- Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion.
- Complete prescription refill requests as authorized, with full documentation.
- Educate patients regarding medication administration and pre‑ and post‑operative instructions.
- Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily.
- Maintain inventory of medications and supplies.
- Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment.
- Clean surgical instruments for sterile processing.
- Inspect instruments for damage, arrange repair or replacement.
- Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is sanitized and battery‑powered instruments are charged.
- Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines.
- Prioritize building and maintaining positive relationships with doctors and clinical colleagues.
- Execute duties professionally and courteously.
- Handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
- Basic computer literacy required.
- Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
- Willingness to travel to other offices occasionally.
- Ability to walk and stand for eight hours.
- Ability to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
- Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred.
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.
- One to two years’ experience in a multi‑specialty clinic preferred.
