Patient Access Specialist II – Bayhealth
Bayhealth Medical Center’s Patient Access Specialist II is a full‑time position located at Kent Campus Hospital. The role focuses on complete and accurate registration and admissions, resolution of eligibility and authorization issues, and supports revenue cycle efficiency. The position may also provide training for new employees and cross‑support in other Patient Access areas.
Base Pay Range$18.27/hr – $27.40/hr

Under the supervision of a Patient Access Supervisor and Team Lead, the Patient Access Specialist II performs complete and accurate registration and admission functions, resolves eligibility and authorization issues, assists with training new staff, and provides cross‑support within the department.
Responsibilities- Assist with training new employees as needed.
- Support peers with complex registration and admission functions.
- Complete direct admissions when applicable.
- Review and resolve account errors in assigned work queues.
- Serve as a System Super User.
- Accurately complete registration following department processes, verify demographic and insurance information via Epic or other systems, obtain insurance cards and IDs, and secure patient signatures.
- Enter data related to procedures, tests, and diagnoses for medical necessity and advanced beneficiary notice processes.
- Verify physician orders to minimize reimbursement risk.
- Identify patients with two‑factor identification and comply with EMTALA during quick registration.
- Ensure all necessary authorizations are obtained prior to service and notify supervisor of issues.
- Complete Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaires without errors.
- Perform point‑of‑service collections: meet monthly collection goals, discuss payment responsibilities with patients, document actions, and reconcile payments.
- Maintain performance targets for the individual and team.
- Continuously learn all aspects of the Patient Access II role.
- Respond calmly to disaster or mass casualty situations and follow emergency procedures.
- Adhere to department and system policies and interact professionally with staff and visitors.
- Schedule appointments and assist patients with referrals when required.
- Maintain efficient patient flow through registration and check‑in processes.
- Perform any other duties within the scope of the role.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- No credential required.
- Two (2) years of experience in a healthcare patient‑facing role.
- Revenue Cycle experience.
- Associate Degree in Business Administration or related field.
- Any relevant credential.
