Position:
Network Engineer Consultant
The Network Engineer contractor supports the design, operation, and stability of enterprise network systems across switching, routing, and firewall platforms. This role requires deep experience with Cisco technologies, including Catalyst switches such as the 2960 and 9200 series, Nexus data center platforms, Cisco ASA and Firepower firewalls, Firepower Management Center, and Cisco ISR routers such as the 4431. The engineer ensures secure and reliable connectivity for corporate sites, data centers, and remote locations while maintaining compliance with industry standards.
Job Responsibilities- Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot Cisco Catalyst switches across campus and branch environments
- Support and administer Cisco Nexus platforms within core and data center networks
- Manage Cisco ASA, Firepower Threat Defense, and FMC for policy changes, upgrades, access control, and system health
- Configure routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP on Cisco ISR platforms
- Assist with network upgrades, cutovers, and migrations
- Perform packet captures, path analysis, firmware reviews, and configuration checks for rapid issue resolution
- Implement security best practices across network infrastructure
- Collaborate with system administrators, security teams, and application owners to support project and operational needs
- Document configurations, changes, and standard procedures for both operational and compliance purposes
- Provide on-site or remote support for network incidents and planned maintenance activities
- Strong understanding of Cisco Catalyst platforms, including 2960 and 9200 series
- Experience with Cisco Nexus switches
- Hands on experience with Cisco ASA, Firepower Threat Defense, and FMC
- Proficient with Cisco ISR routers including the 4431 platform
- Solid knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and static routing
- Experience with network monitoring, change control, and configuration backups
- Ability to analyze complex issues and produce clear technical recommendations
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with cross functional teams
