Job Description OverviewSOSi is seeking Spanish Linguists in Dover, DE to support our federal law enforcement customer. The Spanish Analytic Linguist will provide operational support for linguist and translator duties as assigned by the PMO, including live monitoring, translation, transcription, and interpretation for ongoing and upcoming investigations.
The role requires flexibility to work assigned shift schedules, including nights and weekends, and must be able to respond to short‑notice assignments.
EssentialJob Duties
- Transcribe audio/video and written communications from Spanish to English as required.
- Interpret consecutively or simultaneously from Spanish to English as required.
- Validate translations, transcriptions, or quality‑control reviews of original work to attest to final accuracy.
- Summarize oral or written communications into concise, accurate synopses.
- Provide reliable, accurate gist and summaries of intercepted communication to law enforcement officers.
- Attend federal and state legal briefings, known as Title III minimization, prior to the start of any new investigation.
- Assist law enforcement officers in preparing evidence and investigation summaries for possible federal or state trials.
- Serve as a fact witness in federal or state court when subpoenaed to testify.
- Maintain regular communication with the program manager, keeping them informed of available hours, days, and shifts for upcoming assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the customer or the Program Manager.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with legal work status. Only U.S. citizens will have access to classified documents.
- Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in Spanish.
- Have demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish through testing not older than five years, including certification in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Familiarity with Jatom Systems Incorporated Voice Box Intercept System and Pen‑Link Lincoln Intercept System is a plus.
- Strong oral communication skills to interact effectively with law enforcement officials of varying backgrounds.
- Ability to translate slang and colloquial expressions while preserving original meaning and context.
- Native fluency in a language other than English.
- Excellent command of English for clear and concise written translations, transcriptions, and summaries.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and able to learn new software.
- Type a minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM).
- Familiarity with various media storage formats, including cassettes, videos, and digital media.
- Work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
- Experience as a linguist in support of defense, intelligence, or law enforcement agencies.
- Federal law enforcement clearance.
- Flexibility for short‑notice assignments.
- Availability for multiple shifts, including weekends.
- Fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Shift‑based schedules may include coverage of 24/7 operations.
- Office environment with locations depending on assignment.
