Publicist / Public Relations Volunteer

Loop Roots Foundation, a nonprofit supporting justice‑impacted families, is seeking a Publicist / Public Relations Volunteer to help shape our public image, secure media coverage, and strengthen our overall communication strategy. The role is volunteer during the pre‑launch phase, with the opportunity for a long‑term or paid position after launch based on performance and funding availability.

Organization: Loop Roots Foundation (in partnership with Loop Troop Inc.)
Location: Remote (United States)
Commitment: 8–12 hours/week (Volunteer – potential for long‑term or paid role)

Summary

The Loop Roots Foundation uses technology‑enabled tools to remove barriers that prevent families from staying connected with incarcerated loved ones and accessing mental health care. Key initiatives include:

  • Loop Connect – a ride credit sponsorship platform that provides free or subsidized rides to prison visitation facilities.
  • Loop Talk – a HIPAA‑compliant virtual therapy program offering trauma‑informed mental health care to justice‑impacted individuals and caregivers.
  • Loop Troop – rideshare partnership enabling safe, reliable, culturally competent transportation services.
Responsibilities
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, newsletters, and media advisories.
  • Pitch stories and coordinate interviews with local and national media outlets.
  • Develop and manage the overall PR strategy and messaging calendar for Loop Roots + Loop Troop.
  • Collaborate with leadership, outreach, and marketing teams to align messaging across platforms.
  • Build and maintain a media contact list (journalists, podcasters, influencers).
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare press reports.
  • Assist with event publicity, launch campaigns, and crisis communication planning.
