• Delaware RN License Required
• Shifts based on clinic schedule and can be 8:00am-4:30pm and/or 10:30a-7:00pm
• Monday-Friday, weekends as needed
• Current BLS/ACLS certification
• On-Call Rotation
• Be willing and able to travel to other Planned Parenthood of Delaware sites. A valid driver’s license and insurance coverage for bodily injury and property damage as required by the State of licensing or other ability to provide own reliable transportation is required for local and statewide travel.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, responsible for monitoring and care of abortion patients while in clinic and maintaining centralized follow up for all patients. Maintains a complete record of the patient’s general condition including occurrence of complications and provides education and emotional support to each patient. Also performs duties related to Family Planning patient care and administrative duties as needed.

All duties and responsibilities are performed in a professional and customer service-oriented manner in compliance with PPDE’s Manual of Medical Standards and Guidelines, PPDE policies and procedures and State and Federal regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Supervise recovery area, setting up prior to session and cleaning up at completion, as well as assisting with set-up and monitoring of all aspects of abortion services as needed.
• Count controlled substances at the start and end of each clinic day with another staff member and document counts as they occur, reporting discrepancies to supervisor immediately.
• Transfer non-narcotic and narcotic medications in accordance with PPDE policy and procedures.
• Check all recovery area equipment and emergency supplies, prior to session, to assure they are available and in working order.
• Prepare medication and instruction kits for each patient, prior to each session.
• Review patient charts and communicate with the provider abnormal results to develop plan of care, document interventions/procedures in the patient’s electronic medical record at time of service.
• Administer and/or dispense medications ordered by provider within their scope of practice.
• Administer moderate sedation per clinic protocol.
• Assure fluids and nourishment are provided.
• Provide patient education and counseling in a non-judgmental manner regarding medications, post- procedure care, and birth control methods.
• Reinforce importance of follow-up instructions as indicated.
• Provide emotional support and answer questions.
• Inform Center Manager of needed supplies and medications for provision of services.
• Assist in emergencies as needed.
• Delegate tasks to other licensed and unlicensed staff as appropriate, taking into consideration training, cultural competence, experience, and agency policy and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, and facility staff.
• Participate in affiliate Risk and Quality Management Program
• Abide by the mission of PPDE.
• Provide on-call coverage during clinic hours and as scheduled for after hours.
• Maintain centralized follow up tasks per PPDE Standards and Guidelines for all patients.
• Return patient calls regarding follow-up within one business day and assist with phone calls for general medical information as needed.
• Monthly review of the surgical services crash cart and completion of daily log as assigned.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Current Delaware license or a participating compact state as a RN, or advanced practice registered nurse with prescriptive privileges
