A Groundskeeper II is responsible for leading groundskeeping shift work to maintain aesthetically pleasing State grounds including performing a variety of groundskeeping and routine maintenance work.
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, employees can complete job duties of a similar kind not specifically listed.
- Leads groundskeeping shift work by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work and providing on-the-job training, guidance, and direction.
- Maintains and cultivates lawn, flowers, shrubs, and trees involving planting, fertilizing, transplanting, irrigating, weeding, mulching, pruning, mowing, edging, and trimming.
- Applies pesticides and herbicides safely and responsibly when needed in accordance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
- Oversees and performs seasonal care such as planting in the spring or leaf removal in the fall.
- Maintains driveways, steps and walkways by removing snow or ice, trash and debris, and may assist in grading and repair.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand tools including mowers, tractors, saws, sprayers, blowers, edgers, grass shears, and trimmers.
- Paints and repairs tables, benches, and signs and assists trades and maintenance personnel in painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, and repairs as needed.
- Collaborates with maintenance team members on larger projects.
- Assists in the preparation and cleanup for outdoor events.
- Communicates and interacts effectively with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, ages, and races.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Six months' experience with the operation and basic maintenance of motor vehicles, landscaping or groundskeeping equipment, hand tools and supplies.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
