Job Overview
We are seeking a full‑time, 40‑hour Medical Assistant to support the practice onsite Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am‑5:00 pm. The practice operates with a single Medical Assistant and fosters a highly collaborative, supportive environment. There is active physician recruitment underway to support continued growth and expanded access to care. Currently, providers in this practice include locum physicians who split their time between the hospital and outpatient setting.
The clinic is currently seeing patients 2‑3 days per week, with plans to expand to a full 5‑day schedule in the future. On non‑clinic days, the MA will dedicate time to administrative duties. On clinic days, the provider will see an average of 15 patients, primarily caring for individuals with wounds and post‑operative amputations. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non‑clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers.
Functions
- Assist junior Medical Assistants with daily questions and facilitate their learning through onboarding training.
- Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment, interview patients for medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients; order and organize educational materials to reinforce patient education.
- Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictations, completing insurance forms, liaising with other departments, and advocating for patients with a positive customer‑service approach.
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competent.
- Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
- Improve departmental quality initiatives such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required;
Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – preferred.
Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) – preferred.
ExperienceDirect MA experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules.
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Managing one’s own time and the time of others.
