Job SummaryThe Faculty Department Chair is responsible for overall administration, leadership, supervision, evaluation, and coordination of the Composition, Creative Writing, Literature & Journalism programs. This includes but is not limited to budget preparation and evaluation, faculty recruitment and evaluation, curriculum development, schedule planning, student recruitment, record keeping, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures, evaluation of program effectiveness, and maintaining a visible presence within ACC, CCCS, and the community.
The Faculty Department Chair is responsible for helping to develop, implement, and monitor enrollment management and growth plans for programs within their oversight, and to implement the College's program for ensuring student success in the areas of persistence, retention, and completion.
The Faculty Department Chair responsibilities are in addition to duties outlined in the faculty member’s job description. The Faculty Department Chair works an additional 57 days on top of the 166 contract days in an academic year (223 required working days and 26 non-working days per year). Department Chairs will teach at least one 3-credit course per year as part of base compensation.
They may teach up to one additional course (3-5 adjusted credits) each semester as overload. - Be a current ACC Faculty.
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated commitment working with and supporting students from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, historically marginalized populations such as people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, veterans, first generation graduates, and people with disabilities.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset regarding professional development.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a form that is appropriate for the needs of the audience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in facilitating equitable outcomes for customers, key stakeholders, or students using effective inclusive strategies.
- Demonstrate building successful professional relationships and working collaboratively with internal and external constituents and outside agencies.
- Participate and/or lead in professional organizations, committees and/or taskforces.
- Experience with remote and/or online teaching/training and experience developing courses for multiple delivery formats.
- Ability to develop well-defined assessment/evaluation objectives and high-performance standards aligned with expectations.
- Experience in facilitating equitable outcomes for customers, key stakeholders, or students using effective inclusive strategies.
- Demonstrate building successful professional relationships and working collaboratively with internal and external constituents and outside agencies.
- Participate and/or lead in professional organizations, committees and/or taskforces.
- Experience with remote and/or online teaching/training and experience developing courses for multiple delivery formats.
