1.0 FTE Principal – Salary Range: $105,000 - $118,000

Join Downers Grove School District 58 as a dynamic instructional leader for a PreK-6th grade school serving approximately 350 students.

Responsibilities
  • Management

    Skills:

    • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment.
    • Develop and monitor a building budget in accordance with District guidelines.
    • Maintain and submit accurate records and reports on time.
    • Use strategies and systems to manage conflict.
    • Follow Board policies and legal requirements and communicate these to staff, students, and the school community.
    • Allocate time to address priorities.
    • Utilize physical facilities efficiently.
  • Leadership:
    • Employ a leadership style appropriate for the situation, delegating and encouraging self‑direction when appropriate.
    • Use methods that foster a non‑threatening environment conducive to openness and cooperation, inviting participation in decision‑making when appropriate.
    • Utilize various approaches to build and maintain morale.
    • Raise questions that help others consider consequences.
    • Develop and implement strategies to evaluate programs and make changes as needed.
    • Demonstrate a leadership role on district committees and at district meetings and contribute to the collaborative process.
  • Personnel

    Skills:

    • Follow a plan of supervision and evaluation for all personnel under your responsibility.
    • Develop a staff organizational plan consistent with District policies for class size and teacher aide allocation.
    • Work cooperatively with the Personnel Office in the selection, transfer, retention, or dismissal of district employees.
    • Provide support and assistance for all staff personally and professionally.
    • Provide appropriate orientation for new staff members.
    • Implement a staff development plan that provides activities to assist staff in accomplishing district/school objectives.
  • Instructional

    Skills:

    • Monitor teachers’ planning for effective instruction and ensure implementation of the adopted curriculum through scheduled observation and other data‑gathering methods.
    • Utilize clinical supervision strategies to provide feedback to staff on observed instruction.
    • Identify, analyze, and provide help for the solution of specific instructional problems.
    • Employ strategies designed to protect learning time.
    • Assist staff in monitoring student progress toward curricular objectives.
    • Utilize support staff where appropriate.
    • Supervise and monitor programs for exceptional children.
    • Establish and communicate high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • School‑Community Relations:
    • Involve parents and community members in school and/or district programs.
    • Ensure parents receive information about their child's progress.
    • Support PTA/PTO as an active participant.
    • Recognize outstanding performance by students and staff.
    • Foster good communication with and between parents, teachers, and students.
  • Professional Growth:
    • Maintain involvement in professional associations and their activities.
    • Participate in in‑service workshops, committees, and/or college courses to upgrade professional skills.
  • Goal and Objective Development:
    • Define, implement, and evaluate district and building goals and objectives.
  • Team Building:
    • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Administrative Assistants and/or the Superintendent.
    • Exhibit a willingness to contribute and implement ideas for the betterment of the District.
Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in a K‑8 setting.

• 75‑Certification – General Administrative (Type “75”).
