Reading Specialist – Highland Elementary School

1 FTE Reading Specialist Teacher, 8:00 AM – 3:45 PM. Salary is based on Step and Lane using the 2026‑2027 Salary Schedule. For more information see the salary link below.

• Assist principals in meeting individual building needs and goals related to reading/language arts.
• Assist teachers in selecting and using materials for remedial or enrichment instruction.
• Provide specialized materials and instructional strategies for students below or above grade level in reading.
• Plan, direct, and evaluate the Title 1 Program and the Reading Improvement Program; assist in preparation of these and other grants.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
• Explain the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, communicating these objectives to students.
• Provide direct instruction to students in need of reading support and employ a variety of instructional techniques and presentation skills to accomplish selected objectives.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, collaborating with school personnel as required.

• Professional Educator License as required by the State of Illinois.
• Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of specialization.
• Experience with Title 1 Evaluation Program data collection and parent involvement.
• Strong communication skills with teachers, administrators, parents, and the community about reading/language arts programs.
• Ability to conduct in‑service instruction and supervise instructional assistants in reading instruction.
• Track record of providing support to English Learners in reading.
