Base Pay Range$70,000.00/yr - $78,000.00/yr
Position OverviewIn support of this vision, the Utility Technician is responsible for assisting the Tollway Fiber, Permits & Utilities Unit. This position is also required to assist in reviewing permit applications and on-site verification for compliance with construction permits and project completion. The ideal candidate will also assist with the coordination of information required to relocate utilities for roadway improvement projects.
Essential Job FunctionsThe Utility Technician reports directly to the Executive Project Manager and works closely with the Senior Project Manager for Utilities and other members of the Fiber, Permits and Utilities Unit to ensure that utility and permit projects are being delivered in compliance with approved plans and Tollway permits.
This position is responsible for ensuring that permit applications are being advanced and completed in accordance with Tollway permit conditions and applicable standards. To be successful in this position the incumbent must maintain open lines of communication with supervisors, contractors, consultants and other external project stakeholders.
Review contract plans and visit construction sites to conduct field inspections and confirm that projects are built in accordance with all project conditions. Regular site visits are required to ensure that contractors working within the Tollway right-of-way have all necessary authorizations for the work that is being conducted. Regular coordination and communication with Tollway Maintenance Staff is necessary to ensure that they are aware of work that is occurring, as well as ensure that work does not interfere with planned maintenance activities.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, utility companies, etc. to provide awareness, problem solve, identify corrective measures and ensure that the final recommendation aligns with Tollway expectations.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining open lines of communication between the Tollway and neighboring communities, utility companies, consultants, and contractors.
- Ensuring adherence to Tollway policies and procedures for the utility operations during improvements to the Tollway system and with third party permit holders during their installation operations.
- Reviewing plans for field verification of permit adherence and final inspection.
- Assist the Fiber, Permits & Utilities Unit with the coordination of information required to relocate utilities, both third party and Tollway owned, for roadway improvement projects. The coordination extends to monitoring connections by third parties and additional installations of fiber optic cable.
Education (Required)
- A Bachelor's of Science in Engineering, or comparable construction related degree, or a high school degree and five (5) years of experience in a construction, utility or government systems related field is required.
Skills and Experience (Required)
- Must have experience in reading and understanding engineering plans, including profiles and cross-sections.
