Senior Manager, Consolidations:The Senior Manager - Consolidations is a key role and member within the Windsor Controlling group (the direct parent entity that owns Univar Solutions and is the issuer of privately held corporate debt) and leads the monthly global consolidation function and owns accounting for various Windsor-only corporate legal entities. This includes leadership for the corporate consolidation financial close and internal reporting process, the global intercompany and affiliate transactional management process, all related software and information systems architecture, and the hierarchies, dimensionality, flow movement designations and supplemental information vital to efficiently support a diversity of internal and external reporting needs.
This role is additionally responsible for trouble shooting, investigations and ad-hoc analysis as will routinely arise in the preparation and delivery of periodic consolidated financial statements, and in working across a multi-disciplinary global finance team to design, implement and maintain effective internal control over financial reporting. This position will additionally be a key point of contact with the internal and external auditors and will assist in the preparation of certain financial statements and or footnotes in support of the external reporting team.
This position reports to the Windsor Controller and will be responsible for building and developing a small team, currently consisting of a Senior Accountant - Consolidations, and for interacting with other indirect peers in roles such as Finance Master Data, corporate functions and regional and local finance directors.
This role is also expected to afford opportunities, as time permits, to own, support and or interact with a variety of important corporate and or technical accounting and financial reporting matters including with respect to, but not limited to, Equity, Investments, Income Taxes, Goodwill and Other Long-Lived Assets, Defined Benefit and Pension Accounting, Derivatives, Debt, Segment and Reporting Unit Determinations, Impairments, Restructurings, Covenant Compliance and Equity/Share Based Compensation.
WhatYou'll Do:
- Responsible for the global consolidation process including the recording of consolidating entries, reconciliation of inter-company and investment in subsidiary and other related transactions. Ensure the accuracy of accounting for various Windsor-only, non-operating, corporate legal entities.
- Partner with the tax team to ensure the tax provision is recorded and review GAAP and adjusted tax rates. Monitor for and review new and unusual transactions to ensure that they are recorded in compliance with US GAAP and or group standards.
- Attend to the ongoing design, implementation and maintenance of key software and information systems architecture, and the management of the related hierarchies, dimensionality, flow movement designations and supplemental information necessary to efficiently support a diversity of internal and external reporting needs.
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, such as the statement of members equity and its components, and footnotes and related disclosures to support the external reporting process. Key leader for ensuring integrity of all reported foreign currency translation matters, including for routinely supporting and analyzing systemic currency translation adjustments.
- Key point of contact for quarterly review and annual audit process with external auditors.
- Manage the accounting for equity investments and variable interest entities, the global statutory audit process with the local accounting teams and audit firm.
- Analyze and substantiate the impact of foreign currency translation on the consolidated financial statements.
- Ad-hoc projects requested and deemed appropriate.
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance; an active CPA is preferred but not required.
- 10+ years relevant experience; preference for substantial corporate consolidations experience in a large, multi-national, multi-currency environment. For reference, Univar currently has >130 consolidation entities across 110 countries with transactions spanning 28 currencies.
- Strong accounting and reporting (US GAAP) knowledge.
- Demonstrated proficiency designing, implementing & maintaining consolidations systems.
- Prefer experience utilizing One Stream (in use by Univar since mid-2023; Hyperion used prior) or an equivalent modern consolidation application.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence people and processes without direct responsibility.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, organize and meet deadlines.
This is a hybrid-based role that will report out of our corporate headquarters in Downers Grove, IL
