Under the leadership of the Board of Directors and Executive Staff, the Tollway is committed to achieving the following goals: increase collaboration with regional transportation and planning agencies, promote the regional economy, maintain financial integrity, foster environmental responsibility and sustainability, maintain the safety and efficiency of the Tollway system, further transparency and accountability, enhance customer service, and maintain public trust.
In support of this vision, the Roadway Maintenance District Manager supervises and coordinates day‑to‑day operation of the Roadway Maintenance Sections within the assigned district. Responsibilities include improving the coordination of maintenance activities, developing consistency in management and performance of maintenance sections, increasing lines of communication from top division management to field supervisory staff, and training field supervisory staff in incident management response and techniques.
The Roadway Maintenance District Manager reports directly to the Roadway Maintenance Manager.
The Roadway Maintenance District Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating operations of six maintenance sections, communicating daily with subordinate staff, visiting each location to review work accomplished and assisting in the development of work programs and schedules, and establishing priorities. Frequent dialogue with the Roadway Maintenance Manager, Incident Manager, Maintenance Section Managers, Maintenance Section Supervisors, Sign Shop Manager, Traffic and Incident Management Center Manager, Fleet Maintenance District Managers, Engineering Project Coordinators, District 15 Operations Personnel, Building Maintenance Supervisory Staff, outside agencies and local communities is required regarding work performed in their district.
Responsible to act as project coordinator for all major roadway maintenance construction projects such as I‑Pass Plaza Conversion projects, Plaza Improvement Projects, and Intermittent Pavement Improvement projects. This position also has additional responsibility to respond to major roadway incidents and other emergency conditions so as to direct and coordinate efforts to restore safe and efficient driving conditions in a timely manner for the public.
EssentialJob Functions
- Train subordinate staff in proper maintenance methods and techniques to improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.
- Monitor performance of Maintenance Sections to ensure compliance with Authority policies and progress.
- Discipline subordinate staff to a written warning level and recommend further disciplinary action to higher authority in accordance with progressive disciplinary principles.
- Participate in Step I Grievance Procedure to resolve conflicts between Management and employees regarding Union Contract and work rules.
- Develop and implement programs covering operations in Maintenance Sections under the jurisdiction in areas of safety training, etc.
- Prepare and conduct annual performance evaluations of subordinate staff.
- Respond to critical accidents within the district to coordinate activities of all responders (Police, Fire and Rescue, Towing and Recovery, EPA, etc.) and facilitate the restoration of safe, efficient driving conditions.
- Participate in plan review and provide input for all capital improvement projects, especially maintenance of traffic and traffic control.
