Job Description Summary

The certified occupational therapy assistant contracted through the Organization is responsible to the registered occupational therapist for implementing standards of care for occupational therapy services and adhering to all conditions outlined in the Service Agreement. The assistant performs only those services planned, delegated, and supervised by the registered occupational therapist.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
  • Participates in evaluating the patient's functional status and home environment for hazards or barriers to independent living, as delegated by the registered occupational therapist.
  • Teaches new skills or retrains patients in daily activities lost due to illness or injury, in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Maintains clinical records and reports any changes in the patient's condition to the registered occupational therapist.
  • Submits clinical documentation following organizational policy.
  • Follows treatment programs and documents patient responses and progress toward goals.
  • Communicates with other care team members to promote coordinated care, documenting such communication as per policy.
  • Attends and contributes to in services, case conferences, and meetings to ensure comprehensive care plans.
  • Identifies patient and family needs for other services, consulting with the supervising therapist for referrals.
  • Instructs patients’ families and other healthcare personnel in treatment regimes as delegated.

  • Supervised by the registered occupational therapist at least every thirty days, with ongoing communication documented in the patient’s record regarding condition, response, and plan adjustments.

    Position Qualifications
    • Graduate of an occupational therapy assistant program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
    • Certified by the National Certification Examination of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
    • Licensed as an occupational therapy assistant by the California Board of Occupational Therapy.
    • At least one year of clinical experience as a certified occupational therapy assistant.
    • Good verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
    • Current CPR certification.
    • Licensed driver with a functioning, insured vehicle as per organization requirements.

    Payrate: $65 per visit
