Rare Genomics Institute (RGI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping rare disease patients find a diagnosis, treatment, and pathway to a cure. Through personalized research projects, RGI provides access to world‑leading medical institutions and scientists to conduct genomic sequencing, coordinates with clinicians and counselors to interpret findings, and offers an online crowd‑funding platform to deliver financial solutions. RGI also supports rare disease advocacy by fostering an online community and supporting research through a yearly grant competition.

We are seeking a dedicated, innovative, technically astute AI/ML Software Engineer to join our team and develop AI solutions that deliver medically and scientifically vetted disease information to non‑experts.

• Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript/React, and backend API expertise.
• Excellent communication skills to work with cross‑functional teams and non‑technical members.
• Experience with LLM, RAG, and vector databases to create advanced generative AI prompts, retrieve data from multiple sources, and consolidate information to identify and remove inaccuracies.
• Experience with AI development tools and frameworks such as Python, Tensor Flow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or similar.
• Experience with front‑end/back‑end integration of AI models to deliver accessible, plain‑language content to lay audiences.

• Design and execute tests to validate model accuracy, trustworthiness, and continuous learning capabilities.
• Engage external collaborators or resources as needed to support project objectives.
• Identify key tasks, timelines, risks, and final objectives in collaboration with the project team.
• Attend bi‑weekly team meetings and regularly engage with team members remotely.
• Ensure final products comply with data ethics, security, and medical domain knowledge standards.
