RGI also supports rare disease advocacy by fostering an online community and supporting research through a yearly grant competition.
Help make a difference for those living with rare diseases by volunteering with the Rare Genomics Institute (RGI). We are seeking a dedicated, innovative, technically astute AI/ML Software Engineer to join our team and develop AI solutions that deliver medically and scientifically vetted disease information to non‑experts.
- Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript/React, and backend API expertise.
- Excellent communication skills to work with cross‑functional teams and non‑technical members.
- Experience with LLM, RAG, and vector databases to create advanced generative AI prompts, retrieve data from multiple sources, and consolidate information to identify and remove inaccuracies.
- Experience with AI development tools and frameworks such as Python, Tensor Flow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or similar.
- Experience with front‑end/back‑end integration of AI models to deliver accessible, plain‑language content to lay audiences.
- Design and execute tests to validate model accuracy, trustworthiness, and continuous learning capabilities.
- Engage external collaborators or resources as needed to support project objectives.
- Identify key tasks, timelines, risks, and final objectives in collaboration with the project team.
- Attend bi‑weekly team meetings and regularly engage with team members remotely.
- Ensure final products comply with data ethics, security, and medical domain knowledge standards.
