Job Overview We are seeking a knowledgeable, energetic, and customer-focused individual to oversee the day-to-day operations of our garden centre. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for horticulture, excellent retail and sales skills, and the ability to maintain our high standards of plant and product care. This role is highly varied, combining buying inventory, driving sales, and hands-on plant management.

Key Responsibilities:

Buying & Stock Management:
Ordering plants, tools, fertilisers, and outdoor living products. Building strong relationships with suppliers to ensure top-quality stock at competitive prices. Sales & Customer Service:
Greeting customers, providing expert advice on plant care, and confidently recommending solutions for pests, soil issues, and garden layouts to drive sales. Product Care & Maintenance:
Ensuring all live stock remains healthy through regular watering, pruning, feeding, and pest control. Keeping dry goods and retail displays clean, organised, and properly priced. Merchandising:
Creating visually appealing plant and product displays that inspire customers and maximize seasonal sales opportunities. Inventory Control:
Monitoring stock levels, conducting inventory checks, and managing waste or plant loss records.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Strong, practical knowledge of plants, shrubs, trees, and general gardening products. Proven experience in retail, sales, or customer service (experience in a garden centre or nursery setting is highly desirable). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Physical stamina to stand for long periods, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and lift heavy items (like soil bags and potted plants). Basic computer literacy for handling stock systems and point-of-sale (POS) registers.
