GENERAL PURPOSE

This person will assist the Kitchen Manager with keeping the kitchen department running properly and profitably. This person will be responsible for knowing all aspects of the kitchen, being able to fill in for any position when necessary and training new kitchen associates, all while providing exceptional customer service. This person will also assist in determining production and inventory levels for the kitchen, particularly for the chef‑prepared food area.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the chef‑prepared food area of the kitchen provides
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the chef‑prepared food area of the kitchen
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Ensures the kitchen is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearance
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all customers
  • Performs the following duties alongside the Kitchen Manager or in the Kitchen Manager’s absence:
  • Ordering product and creating production sheets to meet the needs of the chef‑prepared food area of the kitchen based on past and projected sales
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Communicates openly and frequently with Store Director and Director of Kitchen Operations
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained.
  • Writing the schedule for the chef‑prepared food area to ensure coverage and meet labor goals
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement
  • Conducts quarterly inventory of all products in the chef‑prepared food area of the kitchen
MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED and some college education are preferred; one year of kitchen experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to use good judgment and to make decisions quickly and independently
  • Must enjoy working with and handling food products
  • Should have a passion for preparing, cooking, and eating good food
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills to communicate with and manage diverse groups of people effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to handle conflict professionally and appropriately
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
  • Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized skills and techniques
  • Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission-driven, and be self-directed with a demonstrated passion for Harmons’ mission and commitment to working collaboratively
