Area Supervisor
Ross Stores, Inc. – Join our team to manage a specific area of the store and oversee general operations when serving as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a welcoming environment, ensuring merchandise presentation, cleanliness, and executing company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments- Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors at all times.
- Maintain high awareness on the sales floor; immediately correct or report unsafe conditions.
- Secure the building entrance/exit, EAS devices, cash office, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety – accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled; respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize associates via company programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance per the dress code and ensure associates comply.
- Keep all areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard; remove trash daily.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet standards; coach, assign tasks, and follow up.
- Receive merchandise truck and other inbound deliveries.
- Process all merchandise with urgency; maintain clean and organized stockrooms.
- Assist with floor moves, promotional signing, and re‑wraps.
- Follow the Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintain a strong floor presence.
- Demonstrate integrity; safeguard confidential information and merchandise.
- Maintain the PVM system and conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
- Execute company best practices; minimize steps and extra touches.
- Control pace, energy, and presence; manage line to reduce wait time.
- Train and coach associates on registers, shortage control, etc.
- Manage break schedule and ensure equipment is functional.
- Teach “Scan and Bag” best practice; ensure salability of merchandise.
- Maintain cleanliness and audit garment tags.
- Ensure compliance for go‑backs; all returned merchandise must be ticketed, scanned, and tagged.
- Cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.
- Handle front end controls; adhere to refund approval, register procedures, and payroll administration.
- Other duties as assigned by the store manager.

- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
- Basic mathematical calculations common in retail.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC.
- Spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
- Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
- Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 lbs.
