Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Plant Manager to join our busy yard services team. Based primarily at our Dromore Yard, and reporting to the Yard Services Manager, you will be responsible for the effective management, maintenance, utilisation, and compliance of the company's fleet of construction plant, equipment, and machinery. The role ensures that all assets are safe, operational, cost-effective, and available to support construction projects while maintaining regulatory compliance and maximising fleet performance.

This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to safety and teamwork. Occasional travel to sites across the UK & Ireland will also be required.

Job Description Key duties include:
Manage the company's fleet of construction plant and equipment, including excavators, loaders, dumpers, telehandlers, cranes, generators, and support vehicles. Monitor equipment utilisation and allocation across projects. Develop and maintain plant replacement and investment plans alongside the Yard Services Manager. Maintain accurate asset registers and equipment records Oversee preventative maintenance programs and servicing schedules. Coordinate repairs and breakdown response to minimise downtime.

Manage workshop activities and external service providers. Ensure all equipment inspections, certifications, and testing are completed on time. Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and transportation regulations. Maintain records for LOLER, PUWER, lifting equipment inspections, and statutory certifications. Conduct regular plant audits and safety inspections. Investigate plant-related incidents and implement corrective actions. Prepare and manage plant department budgets. Monitor maintenance and repair costs.

Negotiate contracts with suppliers, plant hire companies, and service providers. Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency. Procure new equipment, parts, and consumables. Manage plant hire requirements and supplier relationships. Evaluate equipment performance and return on investment. Coordinate equipment mobilisation and demobilisation. Lead and supervise workshop staff, mechanics, plant coordinators, and drivers. Conduct performance reviews and identify training requirements. Promote a positive safety culture and continuous improvement.

Work closely with site managers and project teams to ensure plant availability. Respond to project demands and changing operational requirements. Produce regular management reports on fleet performance and utilisation. This job description is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Plant Manager and the range of duties to be undertaken. It does not attempt to detail every activity.

Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder at regular intervals. Personal Specification Qualifications Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Plant Management, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred). Relevant industry certifications and health & safety qualifications. Proven track record carrying out the role. Essential Technical Competencies Proven experience managing construction plant and heavy equipment fleets.

Strong knowledge of construction plant operations and maintenance. Understanding of health and safety legislation and industry regulations. Experience managing budgets and controlling costs. Excellent leadership and people management skills. Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in fleet management and maintenance systems Proven demonstrable ability as an astute negotiator Aptitude in decision-making Desirable Technical Competencies Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Plant Management, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).

Relevant industry certifications and health & safety qualifications. Proven track record carrying out the role.
