Overview

Under the direction of the DUSD Dance Program Manager, the Dance Teacher plans, develops, organizes, and implements a comprehensive educational dance program for students, creates a supportive and flexible learning environment to nurture each student’s personal growth, and collaborates with colleagues to reflect on and refine instructional practice.

Position Details
  • Part-time;
    Starting date ASAP / Fall 2025 – Spring 2026
  • Program:
    California School of the Arts - San Gabriel Valley in partnership with Duarte Unified School District
  • Locations:
    Valley View Academy, Royal Oaks Academy, Beardslee Academy, or Maxwell Academy
  • Schedule:

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:45 am – 11:30 am; classes are 30 minutes long
  • Compensation: $50 per hour
  • Course duration:
    Approximately 10 weeks per semester (Sep–Nov, Jan–Mar)
Responsibilities
  • Instruct students basic elements of dance, guide them through creative movement, and choreograph short routines
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons aligned with the dance curriculum
  • Expose students to lesson content while motivating each student to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in the art discipline
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the dance curriculum
  • Review and evaluate teaching strategies and methodologies in consultation with the DUSD Dance Program Manager
  • Participate in staff, professional development, curriculum team, and other meetings
  • Communicate with the DUSD Dance Program Manager in a timely manner
Qualifications
  • At least 1–2 years of dance teaching experience
  • Experience working with youth and adolescent populations
  • Strong understanding of child development, lesson planning, and curriculum development; experience aligning with STEM and language arts concepts preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet schedules
  • Familiarity with current educational practices and a commitment to teaching and curriculum development
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function
