Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting principles combined with hands-on knowledge of the construction industry. You will play a key role in managing project financials, job costing, and ensuring accurate financial reporting across all construction operations.
Responsibilities- Manage full-cycle accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
- Oversee job costing and track project budgets, costs, and profitability for multiple active construction projects
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Process AIA billing / progress billing and manage subcontractor payments and lien waivers
- Monitor and manage WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and over/under billing reports
- Assist with payroll processing, including certified payroll for prevailing wage projects where applicable
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, construction contracts, and internal financial controls
- Collaborate with project managers to forecast costs and track change orders
- Support year-end audits and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors
- Maintain and improve accounting procedures specific to construction operations
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 4–7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, Procore, Quick Books, or similar)
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Knowledge of AIA billing, subcontract management, and lien waiver processes
- Familiarity with prevailing wage, certified payroll, and union reporting is a plus
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
