Deputy Middle East Bureau Chief
Overview
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a deputy bureau chief to help shape and shepherd our coverage of the Middle East from Dubai or Tel Aviv. You’ll help reporters develop must-read stories about the most dynamic people and issues in the region, conceptualize high-impact stories, elevate breaking news with smart, unique angles, and coach reporters to produce their best work.
Responsibilities- Develop must-read stories about dynamic people and issues in the Middle East.
- Conceptualize high-impact stories and elevate breaking news with smart, unique angles.
- Coach reporters to produce their best work and elevate their writing.
- Write and report strong stories when needed.
- 4-7 years of journalism experience, preferably running relevant coverage.
- Deep understanding of U.S. geopolitics and priorities of the Defense and State departments.
- Experience in the Middle East and/or knowledge of a relevant language (advantage, not mandatory).
- Impeccable judgment under intense deadline pressure.
- Sharp writing and editing skills with a deep appreciation of the craft of reporting.
- Strong desire to work across coverage areas to produce top-notch journalism.
The position can be based in Dubai or Tel Aviv.
