Head of English Department

Contract Type: Full-time

Reports to: Principal / Head of School

The Head of English is responsible for leading, developing and managing the English department to ensure outstanding teaching, learning and student outcomes. The role combines strategic leadership, curriculum development, staff management, and high-quality classroom practice within an international school environment.

• Lead the strategic development of the English curriculum (British/IB/American/international framework as applicable)
• Drive high academic standards and measurable student progress across all key stages
• Line manage English teaching staff and support professional development
• Monitor teaching quality through observations, coaching and mentoring
• Ensure effective assessment, moderation and reporting systems
• Develop literacy initiatives across the school
• Manage departmental resources and budget
• Support whole-school improvement initiatives
• Promote inclusion, differentiation and student wellbeing
• Engage with parents and the wider school community

• Bachelor’s degree in English or related field
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent)
• Minimum 5 years teaching experience
• Previous leadership or coordination experience preferred
• Experience in international or British curriculum schools (preferred)
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
