Job PurposeTo support the successful inclusion of Students of Determination within the mainstream learning environment by workin g collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Inclusion Team. The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) acts as a bridge of support, promoting access, participation, independence and wellbeing, while recognising that the classroom teacher retains overall responsibility and accountability for student outcomes.
Key Relationships (Internal and External)Director of Inclusion, Head of Inclusion (secondary), Inclusion Specialist Teachers, Class teachers, Students, Parents, Student Support Team, School Counsellor, Principal and other members of the school management team, external agencies as required.
Key Accountabilities:1. Collaborative Inclusive Practice
- Work in partnership with the classroom teacher and Head of Inclusion/SENCO to implement agreed support strategies.
- Contribute to lesson preparation, resource adaptation and differentiated activities that reduce barriers to learning.
- Support inclusive classroom environments where students learn alongside their peers.
- Assist in assessment processes, monitoring engagement, progress and participation.
- Provide targeted support to named student(s) in line with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Edukey Plans and agreed outcomes.
- Facilitate access to curriculum, specialist lessons, interventions or therapy sessions as required.
- Promote independence, resilience and self-regulation, avoiding over-reliance and encouraging problem-solving.
- Enable students to participate meaningfully in academic and social aspects of school life.
- Observe and record progress towards agreed targets and share relevant information with the teacher and Inclusion Team.
- Maintain accurate and professional documentation in line with school policy.
- Communicate with parents under the guidance and direction of the Head of Inclusion/SENCO.
- Liaise with supporting professionals as required.
- Support the development of social and emotional skills, including emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Contribute to students’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
- Encourage confidence and increasing independence across all aspects of school life.
- Be deployed flexibly to support individuals, small groups or whole-class teaching as required by student need.
- Support extracurricular activities where agreed to promote inclusion and participation.
- Undertake additional duties of a similar nature as directed by the Head of Inclusion/ SENCo.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to inclusive practice.
- Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies at all times.
- Model the school’s inclusive ethos in all interactions.
