High School Boys Counsellor

Overview

The High School Boys Guidance Counsellor supports the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and college/career development of male students. The role focuses on helping students navigate adolescence, make informed decisions, and prepare for post-secondary pathways within an American curriculum framework.

• Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
• Establish procedures and time frames to provide students with academic, personal, social and psychological counseling.
• Work with new students to ensure a smooth adjustment to the school.
• Listen to students’ concerns about academic, emotional or social problems.
• Help students process their problems and plan goals and action.
• Mediates conflict between students and teachers.
• Improve parent/teacher relationships.
• Facilitate drug and alcohol prevention programs.
• Organize peer counseling programs.
• Refer students to psychologists and other mental health resources.
• Work on academic boards to improve learning conditions.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions addressing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.
• Support students in managing stress, peer relationships, and personal challenges.
• Promote mental health awareness and resilience among students.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding protocols.

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or a related field (required)
• Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related discipline (preferred)
• Certification/licensure in School Counseling (preferred or required depending on regulations)
• Experience
• Minimum 3–5 years of counseling experience in a school setting (high school preferred)
• Experience working with adolescents, particularly boys, is highly desirable
