Job Description
For all staff in school we share a responsibility to ensure that children are safe and properly supervised at all times. The school is committed to ‘amazing learning’ – providing enjoyable and meaningful learning experiences so that every pupil makes as much progress as possible. RoleTo participate in a professional development programme over the course of the academic year, supported by a teacher and a subject specialist mentor. The role will consist of:
- Teaching and learning as an Arabic teacher
- Learning support assistance to the team
- Working with the inclusion team
- Teach in an enjoyable, creative, and inclusive way, promoting independence so that every child, including those who attend the Hemam centre, makes as much progress as possible.
- Develop positive working relationships with all members of the school community.
- Use initiative, be flexible, fun, proactive and positive.
- Help children make as much progress with their learning as possible.
- Encourage children to be independent.
- Support the teachers in the day‑to‑day running of the class.
- Ensure children are safe and well cared for at all times.
- Work with groups and individuals to support learning across the curriculum under the direction of the head of MoE subjects, including delivery of intervention programmes.
- Encourage independence by helping children achieve their objectives through questioning, dialogue, demonstrating, and modelling.
- Support the day‑to‑day running of the school – e.g., preparing resources, being responsible for specific areas.
- Engage pupils in meaningful talk at all opportunities to develop language and build relationships.
- Supervise children, including on trips, during break times, while travelling around the school, and during swimming and PE lessons.
- Manage pupil behaviour positively and serve as a positive role model in line with The Aquila Way on behaviour.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times – never discuss any aspect of school work outside of colleagues in school.
- Be proactive in knowing the expectations of your work for each session.
- Meet at least weekly with the teaching team.
- Work closely with teachers to ensure effective communication – both oral and written – concerning pupil progress and learning.
- Be proactive in your own professional development – ask for support if there is an element of the role you feel less confident in carrying out.
- Work alongside teachers and children to create interactive and relevant displays that support learning and celebrate achievement.
- Plan and deliver creative and engaging lessons, ensuring children are actively learning throughout each lesson and that every child makes as much progress as possible.
- Comply with agreed policies and Aquila Ways.
- Actively participate in your own performance management process.
- Be involved in improving learning across the school as a subject leader.
In addition, all staff are required to carry out any tasks required by the school or the regional office to facilitate the smooth day‑to‑day running of the school.
Required Vetting and Background ChecksThe Aquila School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and satisfactory Criminal Background Checks or equivalent covering the previous 10 years’ employment history.
