Professor in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics – Heriot‑Watt University Dubai Campus
ContractGrade 10, part‑time (minimum 40% / 14 hours per week). Fixed term 24 months, potential renewal.

Purpose of the RoleProvide academic leadership and strategic direction for the Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics program, contributing to the development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and collaboration across campuses.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Provide academic leadership for Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at the Dubai Campus.
- Deliver and assess undergraduate courses in actuarial mathematics and statistics and related areas.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and dissertations.
- Develop and lead internationally recognised research and scholarly activities.
- Mentor and support academic colleagues, contributing to staff development and academic quality.
- Support professional accreditation activities with bodies such as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), Society of Actuaries (SOA), and Royal Statistical Society (RSS).
- Contribute to programme leadership, curriculum development and quality assurance.
- Support student recruitment, admissions, outreach and employer engagement.
- Strengthen collaborations with industry, government and professional organisations across the UAE and MENA region.
- Contribute to the strategic growth and reputation of the School and University.
- Undertake administrative and leadership responsibilities appropriate to a professorial appointment and proportionate to the 0.4 FTE workload.
- PhD in Actuarial Science, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.
- Current Professorship or sustained record of achievement consistent with a professorial appointment.
- Internationally recognised research profile with a substantial record of high‑quality publications.
- Significant experience in teaching and curriculum development at the higher‑education level.
- Experience supervising undergraduate, postgraduate and/or doctoral students.
- Evidence of successful academic leadership, including programme development and research leadership.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships with industry and professional bodies.
- Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or equivalent actuarial qualification.
- Experience of professional accreditation processes and curriculum design aligned with actuarial requirements.
- Experience leading research groups, securing external funding, or managing collaborative research projects.
- Experience working at a British university or delivering British university programmes abroad.
- Established links with industry, government, regulators or professional bodies within the actuarial, financial services, risk management or data science sectors.
