The Senior Design Manager – Engineering will provide strategic leadership across multidisciplinary design teams delivering complex pharmaceutical projects.
You will be responsible for ensuring technical integration, regulatory compliance and design excellence from early concept through detailed design and construction support.
This role requires deep experience within GMP-regulated environments and the ability to coordinate highly technical engineering packages across life sciences facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate all engineering disciplines across pharmaceutical and life sciences projects (Process, Clean Utilities, HVAC, Architecture, Structural, Electrical and Automation).
- Oversee design development from concept through detailed design ensuring alignment with client URS and GMP requirements.
- Manage internal engineering teams and external specialist consultants.
- Chair multidisciplinary design reviews including P&, 3D model coordination and technical workshops.
- Ensure full integration of cleanroom environments, contamination control strategies and classified production areas.
- Drive structured design change management and technical governance processes.
- Monitor engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with global regulatory standards (FDA, EMA and ISPE).
- Provide technical leadership during construction support, commissioning and validation phases.
- Implement robust reporting on design progress, risk mitigation and technical performance.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, Automation or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering pharmaceutical or life sciences facilities within a consultancy environment.
- Strong knowledge of GMP-regulated environments and cleanroom design principles.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering packages including P&IDs, clean utilities systems (WFI, Clean Steam and CIP/SIP) and BIM or 3D models.
- Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks (FDA, EMA and ISPE guidelines).
- Proven leadership capability managing complex stakeholder interfaces.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
