Senior Formwork Design Engineer

The Senior Formwork Design Engineer is responsible for delivering safe, compliant, and cost-effective formwork, shoring, and scaffolding design solutions for building and infrastructure projects. The role includes leading complex technical designs, coordinating with project teams and suppliers, mentoring junior engineers, and taking full accountability for assigned design outputs and supervised work.

The objective is to provide a first-class technical service that supports project delivery, safety, efficiency, and commercial success.

• Develop safe, economical, and buildable formwork, shoring, and scaffolding solutions for a wide range of construction projects.
• Produce or oversee the production of:
• General Arrangement (GA) drawings
• Assembly drawings
• Steel fabrication drawings
• 2D and 3D models
• Perform, document, and check engineering design calculations using in-house tools and external structural analysis software.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant national and local standards, codes of practice, and project specifications.
• Apply advanced knowledge of proprietary systems such as PERI, Doka, or similar formwork solutions.
• Prepare and verify accurate material take-offs and material lists.
• Maintain and manage all engineering documentation in line with company procedures.

• Attend technical and coordination meetings with project teams, clients, and site personnel.
• Provide direct technical input, problem-solving, and design support to construction teams.
• Interface with formwork system suppliers and fabricators to achieve optimal, cost-effective design solutions.
• Conduct regular site visits to provide on-site technical support and resolve construction challenges.
• Schedule, allocate, supervise, review, and approve the work of junior engineers, designers, and draftspersons.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to engineering interns and junior staff.
• Review and approve drawings and calculations prepared by junior team members and arrange design authentication where required.
• Lead by example in promoting high standards of engineering quality, accuracy, and professionalism.

• Adhere strictly to company engineering procedures, quality systems, and health & safety standards.
• Take full responsibility for the technical integrity of assigned projects and supervised designs.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tools, and standards.

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in formwork design (scaffolding design experience is a strong advantage).
• Advanced working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
• Proven experience using structural analysis software for temporary works design.
• Strong understanding of BS Standards, codes of practice, and regulations related to formwork and scaffolding.
• Advanced product knowledge of PERI, Doka, or equivalent proprietary systems.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
• Certified product training from leading formwork/scaffolding system suppliers.
• Exposure to large-scale commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.

• Excellent ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.
• Strong technical judgment and engineering problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and design accountability.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and teams.
