Job Description

Job Overview :

The Senior Pipeline Engineer applies best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to enhance the Pipeline (Eng) discipline within McDermott. They serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues, sharing expertise related to pipeline engineering. They solve complex problems, using discipline-specific knowledge to improve products or services, impacting customers, operational, project, or service activities, and ensuring work adheres to guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering for onshore and offshore pipeline systems, requiring thorough knowledge of design codes and hands-on software skills.
  • Conduct conceptual, FEED, studies, and detailed analyses and designs according to project specifications, standards, and codes, demonstrating in-depth pipeline engineering expertise.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations, analyses, reports, and procedures, managing time effectively to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Communicate complex issues clearly to establish understanding.
  • Understand project scope, specifications, schedules, and inter-discipline requirements, addressing concerns proactively.
  • Identify scope changes and raise change notifications with supporting documentation and estimates; support Variation Orders.
  • Assist in estimating bids, including technical reviews and manhour estimates.
  • Raise technical queries for clarifications, maintaining compliance with procedures and standards.
  • Develop design basis, philosophies, and technical specifications as needed.
  • Participate in finalizing deliverables, ensuring compliance and integrity.
  • Attend project reviews, vendor meetings, and site surveys as required.
  • Provide technical direction and review work of designers related to pipeline engineering.
  • Review and prepare design reports and procedures.
  • Support other disciplines with design inputs.
  • Assist procurement in sourcing discipline-specific equipment, materials, and services, ensuring compliance with objectives and procedures.
  • Update weight reports with vendor info, review vendor/subcontractor submittals, and perform design verifications.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, identify defect rectifications.
  • Keep the Lead Engineer informed of activities, concerns, and progress.
  • Contribute to progress reports and productivity assessments.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor data, participate in technical audits, and respond to review comments from clients and authorities.
  • Capture lessons learned and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Manage costs related to own work and discipline.

Prepare and review documentation such as material specifications, design analyses, and reports for pipelines and components, including wall thickness, stability, free-span, and buckling analyses using FEA tools.

Department Manager

All engineering disciplines, fabrication, safety, document control, procurement, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.

Qualifications
  • 8-15 years experience in Oil and Gas, with focus on detailed design.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering;
    Master’s preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of design techniques, analysis methods, standards, codes, and guidelines.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or professional society member preferred.
  • Proficient in engineering software.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in English.
  • Committed to HSE, TQM, and cost-consciousness.
  • Organized, motivating, supervisory skills, and flexible to reassignments and support roles.
