The Head of Technical Design leads Electra's Technical and Engineering Design Department (TED), ensuring all projects are supported by robust, accurate, and high-quality technical documentation. This role combines operational leadership with strategic development — overseeing day-to-day department performance while driving long-term improvements in tools, methods, and team capabilities.
Acting as the bridge between design, engineering, and production, the Head of Technical Design ensures that every drawing, study, and structure meets Electra's established standards of excellence for safety, feasibility, and creativity.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Development
- Define and implement a departmental roadmap focused on process excellence and efficiency.
- Introduce and maintain design tools, software, and workflows that improve productivity and collaboration across departments.
- Strengthen the connection between the design office and key stakeholders:
Estimation, Project Management, Fabrication, Rental, and Procurement. - Lead departmental staffing, succession planning, and skills development initiatives.
- Engineering Studies
- Lead or review technical studies covering areas such as structural stability, electrical and lighting design, HVAC capacity, and site conformity.
- Oversee the preparation of fire safety and authority approval packages, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
- Technical Standardization
- Develop and maintain Electra's Technical Library, standardizing stock items, engineering practices, and fabrication methods.
- Ensure all technical deliverables align with production capabilities and cost-efficiency goals.
- Department Management
- Oversee daily and weekly operations of the Technical and Engineering Design Office.
- Coordinate with Project Management and Planning teams to align workload and timelines.
- Guarantee that all deliverables meet the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and completeness across disciplines (steel, carpentry, finishes, graphics, electrical, furniture, etc.).
- Leadership and Team Growth
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor technical team members.
- Set clear goals and conduct performance assessments.
- Build a flexible freelance network of designers and engineers to manage workload peaks.
- Cross-Branch Support
- Support other Electra branches in unifying drawing methods and providing technical assistance as needed.
- Participate in site visits and provide onsite technical support to project teams.
- Bachelor's or Master's in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or Architecture.
- 10+ years' experience in technical design or engineering for events, exhibitions, or temporary structures.
- Strong command of AutoCAD, Revit, Solid Works, or similar 2D/3D tools; BIM experience preferred.
- In-depth understanding of fabrication and assembly methods (steel, wood, aluminum, and modular systems).
- Knowledge of local authority standards and international safety codes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
