Structural Design Engineer

Job Overview

Repute and international Design consultancy have been designing and delivering quality buildings for over 20 years in the Middle East. Due to their increased project workload they seek a Structural Design Engineer to provide structural engineering expertise on multidisciplinary projects predominantly for new buildings in UAE. Working in a multidisciplinary team of architects & engineers providing a comprehensive design service to our clients, this is a great opportunity for a design engineer to gain additional and more senior experience within a locally renowned consultant and the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects with various scale and complexity.

The Design Engineer will provide engineering support for projects under the direction of a Senior Structural Engineer.

Responsible for carrying out structural design of elements of building / light civil structures in reinforced concrete, steel and masonry to British Standards and / or American Standards. Coordinate with architects, building services engineers and other structural engineers. Prepare mark-ups, check drawings, instruct and supervise CAD technicians. Responsible for the correctness and accuracy of own work and the work allocated and done under his / her supervision to CAD technicians.

Ensure that allocated design works are completed within programme. Communicate design requirements and practical construction details clearly in sketch form. Carry out design checks of other engineers’ designs when required. Give construction site backup on technical / design issues, where required. Visit sites to address design related issues as and when required. Understand and implement document control procedures for calculations and drawings.

Report to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer or Head of Structures.

This professional will have a degree in Structural or Civil Engineering BE (Civil) or ME (Civil), be competent with use of software packages such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP, STAAD PRO, PROKON and the Microsoft office suite of products. 3-8 years post Graduation experience, with most recent experience working for reputed Engineering Design Consultancies in the UAE. Familiar with British (BS 6399, 8110, 5950, 5628, 8004, 8007) & American (ASCE-05, ACI-318, AISC-05, IBC-09 & UBC-97) codes of practice.

Have a strong understanding of building structures, their stability and load transfer systems and be able to analyse them appropriately according to project stage and complexity. Have a flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility accepted. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Good communication, organisational and business writing skills. Desirable would be being a Graduate Member of relevant professional body.

Minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience in the design of buildings. Design experience on projects designed and constructed in the Middle East. Site supervision experience.
