Overview
A DCS Instrumentation Engineer with a strong background in ABB DCS and SCADA systems for sewage treatment plant (STP) operations. The role involves end-to-end responsibility for process control instrumentation asset reliability and industrial communications, focusing on maintaining the health of Profibus DP, PA networks.
Responsibilities- End-to-end responsibility for process control instrumentation asset reliability and industrial communications.
- Administer, operate, and optimize ABB DCS, including control strategies, graphics, alarms, trends, historian tags, and backup/restore.
- Maintain and enhance SCADA interfaces, dashboards, and reporting for O&M and compliance KPIs.
- Develop, test, and implement logic modifications, loop tuning, interlocks, per missives, and sequences under strict MOC procedures.
- Manage alarm rationalization and limit settings to reduce nuisance alarms and improve operator effectiveness.
- Coordinate factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) for control system changes and expansions.
- Own the lifecycle of field instruments—selection, installation, calibration, loop checks, diagnostics, and replacement.
- Ensure Profibus DP/PA network reliability—topology design, segment diagnostics, termination, shielding, earthing, redundancy, spur lengths, baud rates, device addressing, and GSD management.
- Use diagnostic tools (e.g., bus analyzers) to identify noise, reflections, voltage drops, telegram errors, and intermittent faults.
- Integrate field devices via Profibus PA couplers, links, gateways, and interfaces to ABB DCS/SCADA, and maintain device libraries.
- Collaborate with electrical and control teams on EMI mitigation, cable routing, and panel earthing standards.
- Support interfaces with MCCs, VFDs, PLC skids, and plant SCADA/IMS/CMMS systems.
- Ensure all DCS SIS activities comply with plant safety standards, IEC requirements, and cybersecurity policies.
- Strengthen OT cybersecurity through access control reviews, patch management, and secure network segmentation.
- Develop a long-term DCS roadmap covering upgrades, expansions, and software/hardware obsolescence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control, Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering field.
- 5–10 years of experience in process automation, with strong hands‑on expertise in ABB DCS/SCADA systems within water, wastewater, or similar process‑plant environments.
- Proven experience in Profibus DP/PA commissioning, troubleshooting, and advanced diagnostics.
- Solid background in instrumentation for STP processes, including work in hazardous and corrosive (H₂S‑prone) environments.
- Familiarity with SIS/ESD systems (e.g., Pro Safe‑RS), alarm management practices, loop tuning, and historian/reporting tools.
- Experience working with CMMS platforms and IMS documentation requirements.
