Job Purpose
The ELV Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of ELV-related infrastructures within the Data Centre, including CCTV, Fire Alarm, Facility Services, Access Control, Building Management System (BMS), Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and related systems. The role ensures high availability and optimal performance of ELV infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance, minor modifications, and fault finding on ELV systems.
- Conduct functional testing and maintenance checks on Fire Alarm, Fire suppression (ASD), emergency lighting, CCTV, access control, BMS, DCIM, Vesda system, PLCs, and other ELV equipment.
- Respond to first‑line help‑desk calls for on‑site ELV failures.
- Adhere to company procedures, policies, and COSHH regulations, and use PPE where required.
- Interpret ELV schematic diagrams, control diagrams, and circuit schematics.
- Coordinate with Data Centre managers and business leaders to optimise plant safety, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot problems, schedule upgrades, and collaborate with service providers.
- Manage Service Requests (SR) and ensure timely completion.
- Maintain inventory levels for spare parts and approve PM and SOP programs for CMMS implementation.
- Create ISA sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters, and for control valves and positioners.
- Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, and junction boxes, including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Design logic diagrams in International Automation format for PLCs and DCS.
- Inspect, test, and commission facility systems.
- Collaborate on new product development, support existing products, and evaluate equipment.
- Create and track job cards in CAFM App until closure.
- Resolve issues with BMS and DCIM systems, including troubleshooting glitches and malfunctions.
- Retrieve and analyse monthly system reports, highlighting abnormalities.
- Support 24/7 building needs and activities as required.
- Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Adhere to Data Centre guidelines and Tier‑III/ASHRAE/NFPA standards.
- Handle rotation shifts on a monthly or weekly basis.
- Maintain hands‑on experience with sensors, controllers, and ELV devices.
- Apply knowledge of Modbus, BACnet, mechanical, electrical, and passive infrastructure protocols.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Electronics or Controls Engineering.
- 3‑5 years of Data Centre Facilities and Operations experience.
- 6+ years total experience in Operation & Maintenance.
- Basic understanding of Data Centre critical environments.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
- Ability to work independently.
- Flexibility in work hours and rotation shifts.
- Data Centre certifications are an added advantage.
