Job Description
The Senior Advisor - Safety, Health & Environment will support civil works for rail infrastructure as part of a transformative rail project.
Role Responsibilities- Provide health and safety measures in a working environment
- Support staff with the identification of environmental aspects and determining the project objectives and target
- Identify and evaluate the unsafe environment and practices
- Identify the root causes of safety and industrial hygiene
- Develop hazard control processes, methods, and programs
- Recommend solutions to issues that need improvement
- Advise several ways of controlling potential threats
- Monitor implementation of safety plans according to plans and objectives
- Monitor and track safety systems by using computer systems and spreadsheets
- Communicate plans and strategies across the entire business unit from time to time
- Maintain and manage equipment and processes related to each project of health and safety
- Suggest several preventive methods and practices like recycling, waste disposal, pollution control, etc.
- Collaborate with other levels of engineering staff, quality assurance, quality improvement, regulatory compliance specialists, etc.
- Measure and audit the effectiveness of hazard control programs
- Prepare future safety plans based on past experiences and facts
- Work in compliance with ISO 14000/14001 standards and practices
- Represents the Logistics & QHSE Manager on construction job sites
- Assists the HSE Manager in the establishment and management of the safety program and in the identification and mitigation of hazards to persons and property
- Assist the HSE Manager in developing Safety Performance Indicators and Targets and helps communicate findings to staff and assist in implementation of the mitigation strategies
- Provides oversight to the new hire safety orientation process and other safety related training
- Assists in development of the Project Health, Safety and Environment Plan
- Implements the Project Health, Safety and Environmental Plan
- Reviews and advises on safety requirements in the Method Statement and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)
- Reviews risk assessments for upcoming work and provide technical assistance to the safety planning process
- Receives, reviews, and distributes safety inspection reports with recommended corrective actions
- Audits and inspects the job site to detect and correct safety hazards
- Audits the job accident records and periodically prepare an audit report of these records
- Represents management during safety inspections of the job site by regulatory authorities
- Verifies proper maintenance, calibration, and operation of all safety equipment
- Leads the weekly HSE meetings with the contractor and participates in site safety training
- Takes a pro-active approach in resolving potential hazards at work site
- Verifies agreed safety standards and applicable regulations are enforced by the contractor
- Reports Near-misses and safety statistics each month
- Maintains and applies knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
- Reviews “Permit to Work” procedures and log
- Carry out record, document, and issue daily, weekly & monthly site safety inspections, audits and reports
- Develop, monitor, and conduct site wide HSE induction for multi-national contractors, employees and visitors
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be assigned
- Ensure that construction activities in compliance with company policies and adhere to local regulations
- Train and oversee employees on health and safety regulations
- Monitor personnel and workspace
- Always ensure the company is prepared to submit the appropriate document
- Encourage and advocate for safer work equipment, materials, and supplies
- Track the number of incidents and produce reports
- Total 10 years. of experience
- Rail experience would be advantageous
- Under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements
- Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty
- Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures
- Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area
- Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace
- Minimum - Engineering Diploma Qualification
- Relevant HSE qualifications - NEBOSH, IOSH
