Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design review, construction supervision, interface coordination, testing & commissioning and quality assurance of mechanical systems across all non-station metro facilities. These include depots, maintenance facilities, workshops, OCC/BOCC buildings, ancillary buildings, ventilation shafts, substations, parking structures and other support infrastructure. The role involves active coordination with civil, structural, electrical and systems engineering disciplines to ensure safe, compliant and efficient delivery of mechanical works.

Mechanical

Systems Design Review & Technical Oversight
  • Review and validate mechanical designs, calculations and drawings for depots and ancillary buildings, including HVAC ventilation, cooling systems, fire protection plumbing, compressed air systems, workshop mechanical equipment, lifting/hoisting systems and water/wastewater systems.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety codes and metro‑specific mechanical standards such as NFPA, local fire codes, building regulations and international MEP standards.
  • Evaluate design feasibility, maintainability, constructability and integration across facility types.
Construction Supervision & Site Management
  • Oversee the installation of mechanical systems in depots and other buildings ensuring strict adherence to approved IFC drawings, shop drawings, method statements and QA/QC procedures.
  • Monitor contractor performance, materials and workmanship to match required quality standards.
  • Conduct site inspections, review ITPs/WIRs and ensure compliance with mechanical engineering best practices.
Testing, Commissioning & Performance Verification
  • Witness and verify tests such as FAT/SAT/IST for depot/building mechanical systems (HVAC plant, pumps, ventilation, smoke control, compressed air, fire suppression, mechanical workshops).
  • Ensure integrated systems meet performance, reliability, safety and maintainability requirements.
Safety, Fire Life Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure mechanical works comply with NFPA 130 (where applicable), national fire codes, mechanical safety regulations and local authority requirements.
  • Support ventilation and smoke control requirements for enclosed structures, workshops, vehicle halls and emergency areas.
Depot & Workshop Specific Responsibilities
  • Review and supervise installation of depot equipment such as:
  • Lifting jacks, wheel lathes, bogie drops, monorail cranes
  • Compressed air networks
  • Fuel systems (if applicable)
  • Oil/wastewater separation and drainage systems
  • (global depot roles emphasize mechanical oversight of workshop assets).
  • Oversee maintenance systems integration (O M manuals, CMMS data, asset tagging).
Documentation, Reporting & Contractual Support
  • Prepare technical reports, NCR closure records, QA/QC documentation and mechanical handover packages.
  • Support variation assessment, progress reporting and contract administration activities as required under PMC/FIDIC structures.
Sustainability, Energy Efficiency & Environmental Considerations
  • Implement sustainable mechanical design practices ensuring energy efficient systems across depot and building facilities (aligned with global MEP sustainability trends).
About You
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 12 years experience in major infrastructure or metro/rail mechanical works including depots, buildings or complex MEP environments (as reflected in global postings).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, fire protection plumbing, mechanical building services and workshop mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD/Solid Works/BIM tools used for multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Experience in PMC/consultant environments (preferred) and familiarity with FIDIC/design-build workflows.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
