Head of Sharia Controller

Job Description General Overview

We are looking for an experienced Head of Sharia Controller for our client, a leading Islamic insurance provider in the UAE. The role will lead and oversee Sharia governance across all business functions, ensuring compliance with Islamic principles and UAE Central Bank regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Sharia compliance, governance frameworks, and Takaful operations, with the ability to provide strategic guidance and uphold the organization’s Sharia integrity across products, investments, and business processes.

• Oversee the company’s Sharia governance framework, ensuring adherence to UAE Central Bank and AAOIFI standards.
• Serve as ISSC Secretary, managing meetings, preparing reports, and ensuring timely implementation of Sharia resolutions.
• Provide expert Sharia advisory across underwriting, investments, claims, and product development.
• Conduct Sharia reviews and audits, identifying and addressing areas of non-compliance.
• Review and approve Takaful products, contracts, and documentation from a Sharia perspective.
• Lead training and awareness programs to promote Sharia compliance and ethical conduct.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports and remain updated with evolving Islamic finance regulations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Sharia or a related discipline.
• Professional certifications in Islamic Finance / Takaful (AAOIFI, CIBAFI) and a recognized insurance qualification.
• Minimum 10 years of Sharia supervision experience, including at least 5 years in Takaful insurance.
• Strong proficiency in Arabic and English (written and spoken).
• Open to candidates from the UAE, Egypt, Malaysia, or Indonesia.
