To perform routine microbiology tests in a medical laboratory in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements and guidelines

• Perform routine microbiology tests according to professional standards and guidelines
• Coordinate the prioritising, sorting and testing of laboratory samples
• Perform Microbiology Cultures, microscopic, bacteriologic, PCR (respiratory, meningitis, gastroenterology), serological, urine analysis, and rapid tests for use in diagnosis and related treatment of patients
• Contribute to relevant quality improvement initiatives aimed at mitigating risks, compliance governance and increased patient safety
• Actively contribute and guide, where needed, relevant training and health and safety initiatives
• Operate, calibrate and monitor effective functioning of standard laboratory equipment that includes analyzers and maintenance of temperature logs

A relevant Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences or a related field

At least 3-5 years' full time experience as a medical laboratory technologist in Microbiology

• Correct maintenance of instrumentation according to manufacturer's guidelines
• Developing standard operating procedures
• Knowledgeable in Approved International Accreditation Standards or equivalent
• Knowledgeable in laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and instrumentation troubleshooting
• Laboratory information systems and reporting
• Laboratory terminologies as applied in the specific and related area of specialisation
