Phlebotomist

Phlebotomists are health care professionals who have been trained to collect patient blood specimens by venipuncture and by micro collection techniques. They may be rotated through various shifts and collect samples from hospital departments, guiding patients on how to collect urine, stool, sputum, semen, or other samples.

• Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition with the patient’s identification before venipuncture.
• Explain the sample collection procedure to patients or parents before collecting a sample.
• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
• Know which color top tube to use and the required blood volume for each test.
• Assist in the Clinical Laboratory as needed, including bleeding time tests, blood cultures, and blood sample collection.
• Maintain cleanliness and decorum of blood collection rooms.
• Stock the laboratory with consumables and manage inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing orders, and verifying receipts.
• Ensure all trays and tools used are clean and sanitized.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, aiding technologists, and collecting data.
• Complete reports for hazardous incidents and consult with the laboratory supervisor for further direction.
• Handle complications that may arise from improperly drawn blood, patient allergies, or other patient conditions.
• Receive samples, attend calls and queries, prepare send‑outs, and follow up on laboratory results, attaching uploads to the HIS system.

• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• At least two (2) years of Medical Laboratory experience, especially in phlebotomy.
• Currently licensed in the country of origin and holding a DHA license to practice in Dubai, UAE.
• Fluent in spoken and written English;
  Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
