Job Summary
The Cold Room Technician (CO2 & Ammonia Plant) will be responsible for the safe operation, routine maintenance and hands‑on servicing of ammonia refrigeration systems and associated cold room equipment. The role ensures reliable temperature control and product quality by performing inspections, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs, while working in accordance with statutory regulations, company procedures and health and safety best practice.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and monitor CO2 & Ammonia refrigeration plant, compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion devices and controls to maintain required temperatures and system performance.
- Carry out routine and preventive maintenance tasks including lubrication, filter changes, valve adjustments, belt replacements and cleaning of heat‑exchange surfaces.
- Inspect cold rooms, door seals, insulation, defrost systems, alarms and monitoring sensors; report and remedy defects to ensure product integrity and energy efficiency.
- Assist with installation, commissioning and decommissioning activities for refrigeration equipment under the supervision of senior technicians or engineers.
- Participate in planned shutdowns and preventative maintenance programmes, coordinating with operations and quality teams to minimize production impact.
- Work across one or more ammonia cold room installations within the site, supporting shift patterns including nights, weekends and on‑call duties as required.
- Collaborate with maintenance engineers, operations, safety and quality teams to deliver safe and compliant plant operation and maintenance.
- Provide technical input to minor project works, spare parts planning and stock control to support plant availability.
- Minimum 2–5 years’ practical experience working on industrial refrigeration systems, preferably ammonia plants or low‑temperature applications.
- Competence in CO2 & ammonia handling and refrigeration practices, including knowledge of vapour compression cycles, pressure‑temperature relationships and system controls.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to complete clear maintenance records and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
