Position Details

Position Title: Mechanical Fitter / Assistant

Department: Technical – Electrical

Reporting To: Head of the Department

Location: Jebel Ali Freezone, Dubai UAE

Industry: Primary Tobacco Processing (PMD)

Support mechanical maintenance and fitting tasks on tobacco processing and packaging machines. Assist senior mechanics and engineers in ensuring equipment operates efficiently with minimal downtime.

• Assist in mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance of tobacco processing machinery.
• Support preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance activities.
• Perform basic assembly, fitting, and adjustment of mechanical components.
• Replace worn or defective parts such as bearings, belts, gears, and couplings under supervision.
• Assist in machine overhauling and scheduled servicing activities.
• Lubricate machine parts and ensure smooth mechanical operation.
• Support troubleshooting activities for conveyors, feeders, rotating equipment, and material handling systems.
• Follow safety procedures and maintenance standards during all maintenance activities.
• Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
• Document completed tasks and report mechanical faults or abnormalities to supervisors.
• Coordinate and collaborate with electricians, production teams, and supervisors when required.
• Support shutdown maintenance and emergency repair activities as assigned.

• Follow company safety procedures, maintenance standards, and workplace regulations.
• Ensure safe working practices while operating near machinery, moving equipment, and hot surfaces.
• Use appropriate PPE and comply with lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
• Maintain clean and safe working areas in accordance with housekeeping standards.
• Report unsafe conditions, hazards, and maintenance risks immediately to supervisors.

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical trade.
• Mechanical trade certification is an added advantage.

• 1–3 years of experience as a Mechanical Assistant, Mechanical Technician, or Fitter in:
  • Tobacco processing
  • FMCG
  • Food processing
  • Industrial manufacturing environments
• Experience in continuous process industries is preferred.

• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Familiarity with mechanical maintenance tools and workshop practices.
• Basic understanding of rotating equipment and material handling systems.
• Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings is an advantage.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance activities and lubrication practices.

• Maintain good communication and coordination with other technicians and team members.
• Support teamwork and collaborative working relationships within the maintenance department.
• Prepare and submit daily activity reports to the Line Manager.
• Assist supervisors and senior technicians during maintenance and shutdown activities.

• Remain proactive during shifts and ensure no hazards exist within the mechanical maintenance area.
• Ensure machines are functioning properly and operating safely.
• Plan, organize, and complete assigned maintenance activities within deadlines.
• Comply with company procedures, safety standards, and operational requirements.

• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Physically fit and safety-conscious.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to breakdown situations.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Willingness to work shifts and within production environments.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.

• Factory-based role with exposure to:
• Dust, heat, noise, and heavy industrial machinery.
• Mechanical maintenance workshops and production areas.
• Shift work and emergency maintenance requirements.
• May require standing for extended periods and working during plant shutdowns.
