Senior Backend Engineer — Scalable Systems; Hybrid
Join Careem's Engagement team on the Benefits Platform squad — the team that builds the systems behind promotions and discounts driving a significant part of Careem's business. You will design, build and scale backend services for millions of customers across MENA, working in a hybrid environment with 2 days in office and 3 WFH weekly.
Responsibilities- Design and build highly scalable, robust backend applications and services
- Write high-quality, performant, and reliable code on defined features independently
- Understand functional specifications and deliver complete end-to-end features
- Participate in the on-call rotation and resolve incidents within defined SLAs
- Contribute to agile and engineering practice evolution
- Mentor peers and collaborate across cross-functional teams
- Hybrid working: 2 days in office, 3 days WFH

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Strong experience with modern OOP languages:
Java, Golang, Kotlin, C#, or C++ - Experience building scalable distributed backend services
- Strong problem-solving skills and engineering fundamentals
- Ability to work independently on complex technical challenges
- Located in Dubai or willing to relocate; hybrid (2 office / 3 WFH)
