Position: Software Development Engineer 2 (SDE 2) [Delivery Applications Squad]

About the role

We are building one of the region's most ambitious e-commerce platforms, high-traffic, multi-region, and engineered for scale. As a Backend Engineer at Lulu, you will own critical systems that millions of customers depend on every day—from product discovery through to delivery. You have shipped scalable APIs and microservices in production. You understand caching strategies, third-party integrations, and backend performance trade-offs, and you take ownership of features end-to-end.

About

the squad

The Delivery Applications squad powers everything that happens after a customer clicks Place Order. We own the Delivery Promise Service, Warehouse Management System (WMS), and Transport Management System (TMS)—the backbone of Lulu's fulfillment operations. Our systems coordinate warehouse picking, packing, carrier allocation, and last-mile delivery to ensure customers get their orders on time.

Core services:

  • Delivery Promise Service
  • Warehouse Management System (WMS)
  • Transport Management System (TMS)
What you'll work on

Build and scale the Delivery Promise Service that calculates accurate delivery estimates based on inventory location, carrier capacity, and real-time logistics data. Design and maintain WMS backend services for inventory tracking, pick‑pack‑ship workflows, and warehouse slot management. Develop TMS components for carrier selection, route optimization, shipment tracking, and delivery status propagation. Architect event‑driven workflows using Kafka to coordinate handoffs between warehouse, transport, and customer‑facing systems.

Build integrations with third‑party logistics providers, carrier APIs, and last‑mile delivery partners. Implement resilient, fault‑tolerant systems that handle high‑volume order spikes during sales events and seasonal peaks. Drive observability across the fulfillment pipeline with structured logging, metrics dashboards, and proactive alerting on SLA breaches.

What we’re looking for Scope & Impact

Own and deliver projects in service of quarterly goals on the team, independently identifying the right solutions to solve ambiguous, open‑ended problems. Deliver your team's goals on time and with a high standard of quality, ensuring your work has the greatest customer impact. Make informed decisions by consulting the right stakeholders and balancing details with the big picture, executing against the spirit of requirements.

Technical

  • Decompose business problems into solutions with multiple interacting components, designing software that is testable, debuggable, and not easily misused.
  • Write code that captures the essential nature of the solution—flexible, reusable, efficient, and adaptable to changing requirements.
  • Ensure high code quality in reviews, set up best practices and coding standards, and foster an effective code review culture.
  • Independently resolve bugs and system issues during on‑call, and proactively reduce toil and tech debt.
  • Bring an AI‑first mindset to your work—actively leverage AI tools and assistants to maximize productivity, accelerate development cycles, and amplify your engineering impact.
Leadership & Mentorship
  • Serve as a technical lead for projects, defining and delivering well‑scoped milestones.
  • Actively level up less‑experienced team members through mentorship, guidance, and setting a strong example.
  • Build relationships across teams, proactively communicate and coordinate requirements with other engineering groups.
  • Contribute to interviewing and assessing candidates with advanced domain‑specific and leveling interviews.
MUST‑HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend language:
    Python, Java, or Node.js.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and building microservices and RESTful/Graph

    QL APIs.
  • Solid experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) including managed services, deployments, and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, or similar) and automated testing.
