LEAF is seeking qualified building inspectors in Alameda County or Contra Costa County, California. Candidates must be able to perform technical building inspections to enforce compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances. Five years of industry experience is preferred. Candidates must be certified through ICC. DSA, OSHPD, and CASp certifications are highly desired.

• Inspection of new buildings, additions, and alterations of existing buildings for compliance with the currently adopted editions of the International Building Code;
• Articulate complex building issues to the public, contractors, designers, and owners, emphasizing life/safety regulations;
• Identify and solve complex problems by conferring and providing information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners, and contractors regarding code requirements and alternatives;
• Field questions regarding building requirements;
• Make independent analyses during the inspection process;
• Advise planning, engineering, and/or code enforcement personnel regarding building‑related issues;
• Read and interpret various codes and apply good judgment in enforcement;
• Write clear and complete correction notices and inspection reports, and perform other related tasks as assigned;
• Analyze, interpret, and accurately check building plans, specifications, and building codes;
• Enforce codes with good judgment and impartiality;
• Apply technical knowledge of building trades;
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.

• Proven knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances relating to building construction, including state energy and accessibility regulations;
• Understanding of accepted safety standards, testing procedures, and methods of construction;
• Principles and techniques of building inspection work;
• Basic understanding of the plan‑checking process;
• Computer knowledge and skills are desirable.

• Maintain a healthy working relationship with contractors, builders, and the public;
• Must have excellent customer service skills, including good listening and negotiating skills;
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Must have excellent critical thinking and decision‑making skills;
• Must be able to kneel, crouch, and climb tall ladders;
• Must have a valid California State driver’s license.

LEAF anticipates paying $38.08 to $47.60 per hour, commensurate with experience and skill set.
